REISHIKI - BEGINNING AND ENDING OF CLASS
We do not bow to any pictures or ancient
masters of karate.
We do however bow to each other in the
tradition of martial arts as a gesture of readiness and friendship (like a
handshake).
We observe total respect for the art of karate,
its founders, leaders and members.
BEGINNING
the TRAINING SESSION:
The senior student will direct the class to
line up for attendance. When lining up for class the highest ranking student
will be to the left end of the line, facing the instructor. If more than one
student is of the same rank, then the one with the longest time-in-grade will
be to the left. If both have the same time-in-grade, then the oldest student
will line up to the left.
Senior Student Commands:
"SEIZA" (kneel)
"KIOTSUKE" (attention)
"MOKUSO" (relax and breath calmly
about 30 seconds with eyes closed - students should be clearing their mind of
negative thoughts in preparing to begin the training session).
"KAIMOKU" (eyes open)
"SENSEI NI REI" (students bow to
instructor)
"OTAGAI NI REI" (students bow to each
other)
"DOJO CREED" (all students will
recite the Dojo Creed)
All Students: "ONEGAI SHIMASU SENSEI"
(please help me with my lesson)
TAISO (warm up exercises) and the TRAINING SESSION
as directed by the instructor
