KOBUDO - ANCIENT WEAPONS SYSTEMS OF OKINAWA

There are two divisions in our kobudo system, the long weapons and the short weapons.

Traditional short weapons:

Kama - razor edged sickle used to cut grain and rice

Sai - three pronged steel tool imported from China, used mainly as a weapon

Nunchaku - formed of wood and rope, derived from an instrument used as a bit for horses,

or tool used to beat or soften grain

Tonfa - "L" shaped in design, originally a wooden grist mill handle

Long weapons:

Bo - six foot wooden staff used to carry water and food on the shoulders

Jo - short staff

Eku - the oar

Other Traditional Weapons:

Katana - samurai sword

Methods and techniques of kobudo used in our system are based on the traditional weapons systems of Okinawa and Japan.

Progression is through a logical sequence of kihon, kata, and kumite.
